How we Started

In 1973 a group of Butte County (northern California) residents, who loved sailing, came together to form a sailing club.

They all owned Aquarius brand sailboats made by Coastal Recreation. The group became Fleet I, Area II of the North American Sailing Association. Over time, the club changed their name to the Chico Yacht Club.

Today, a number of Chico Yacht Club members still own Aquarius sailboats and some of the original members are still in the club!

Our members berth their boats at various local and Bay area marinas.

The Chico Yacht Club members regularly sail in Northern California lakes the Delta and San Francisco Bay.

Our members include bluewater cruisers and even circumnavigators.

The Chico Yacht Club meets the last Monday of every month as well as mid monthly dinners (excluding some of the summer months due to some of us being too busy sailing).

The Chico Yacht Club library has over 300 sailing related books as well as a number of videos, sailing magazines and charts and is available to all of its members (one great reason for beginning sailors to join the CYC).
